Are you taking supplements because you want to enjoy a diverse intake of minerals and vitamins? Well, you should know that you can achieve the same through food as well.

You just need to make sure that you eat a bit of everything, and always rotate the foods you eat, trying to make your menu as diverse as possible. This way, you will ensure a complete intake of precious nutrients.

No pills, not even aspirin, and certainly no supplements ever enter my mouth – everything I need comes from my fish and vegetarian diet, which incorporates many different kinds of fruit and vegetables every week. ~ David H. Murdock

Of course, there are situations in which you need supplements, as in the severe lack of certain minerals and vitamins, supplements making sure you take the required dose so you can replenish the absence of a nutrient in your body, as soon as possible. In these cases, it is best to opt for supplements with natural ingredients, in the detriment of synthetic products.

People chose to take supplements because it is more convenient to get the nutrients you need in sufficient amounts than trying to take them from food.

As you can see in the infographic, a person needs to consume quite significant portions to get a proper quantity of a needed substance. This is why many people lack something in their organism, being so hard to maintain the right level by just eating foods.

The infographic was created by and it may force you to have supplements instead of real food. Your aim should be to consume real food, and supplements only with moderation.

Simple Ways to Have More Real Foods

Since most of us don’t eat all the right foods, and not in their natural and unaltered shape, preferring processed foods and fast-foods, the nutrient intake is far from being the right one.

To make sure that the body benefits from the right type of nutrients, you need to eat fresh foods, or at least processed in the smallest degree, which come from reliable sources, making sure that have not been treated with pesticides or other chemicals. Such food sources are highly valuable for the body. So eating canned carrots is not like eating them fresh. Nutrients are destroyed through food processing, and this is why most foods are more valuable raw and fresh.

Of course, you won’t eat eggs or meat raw, but to preserve the nutrients, you have to cook them correctly. Boiling or roasting, in the case of meat, is preferred, instead of frying them in oil.

Also, the meat should not be cooked on an open fire or kept too much at high temperatures. Fried and burned meat becomes rather toxic than nutritious, this is why it is important to cook it right.

Unfortunately, the highly processed foods we find today on most store shelves do not respect this rule. The food is fried in oil and cooked at very high temperatures because this way it cooks faster and the manufacturer can produce more in less time. This is what happens in fast-food restaurants. The idea is to cook food very quickly, so a large number of customers are served in a short period. Apparently profit is much more important than the health and well-being of people, the result being an unhealthy and obese population.

We should be more careful about what we eat, focusing on quality and not on quantity. A well-fed body will always be healthier and fitter.
