Best Weight Lifting Accessories Helping You Get Better & Safer Workouts

Here we are going to talk about what kind of weight lifting accessories you will need to have safe and comfortable workouts for both men and women.

    1. Shoes for Weight Training

    weightlifting shoes

One of the most vital weight lifting safety equipment

Well, I have seen gals and boys lifting weights in sandals and slippers, and that is a big no-no. Some professional gyms even prohibit putting on inappropriate footwear. The reason is simple. It is dangerous, and you can quickly get an injurie while you lift or you drop something on your foot.

You should wear sturdy shoes that are thickly cushioned. Also, they are ergonomically designed, so they protect your ankle, feet, and toes. They also support your joints and help you to keep your balance while lifting.

Some shoes are specially made for powerlifters for even better protection and safety. If it is possible, get one those. You will not regret it since they will also help to lift heavier weights.

    2. Towel

I do not think you want to lie into someone else’s sweat. Get a towel and wipe off your body and the gear you use. But do not forget to bring a clean one each time because after a sweating workout it is going to be smelly for sure.

    3. Weight Lifting Belt

    weight lifting belt

Important weight lifting gear for heavy lifters

Wearing or not wearing a weightlifting belt has always been a controversy in the bodybuilding community. Some trainers say it is crucial to protect the lower back. Others say it makes the core muscles weak since it does all the work while lifting to keep the stability of the body. This way back and core muscles will not develop in the right way, so at the end, the user will have a lower back pain.

In my opinion, and from my personal experience, wearing a lifting belt is only important if you want to challenge yourself and to lift weights that are really heavy for you. In most of the cases when you use weights that are used for 6 or more reps, you do not need it. I mean for general strength training.

    4. Gloves or Pads

    workout gloves

Typically, weight lifting gloves are thickly padded on the palm area, and the top of the fingers are cut off for better grabbing. However, there are many types of gloves for different purposes.

Gloves help you to grab the bar safely, so it will not slip off from your hands. And, of course, they protect your hands from skin injuries and to get rid of moisture.

An alternative to gloves are the weight lifting pads. These pads are usually made from a spongy or rubber materials. You should place them on your palms and they provide maybe better control than gloves since a larger area of your hand is in contact with the bar. However, it is easy to lose them when you go from one training equipment to another.

    5. Wrist Wraps

Obviously, wraps (lifting bands) are used to support your wrist. However, they also help to lift heavier weights. Hence you can train harder. However, not everyone likes them and, like the belt, they may make your wrists and hand grip strength weaker.

    6. Lifting Straps

Using or not using lifting straps is another topic that divides the bodybuilding society. It has its cons and pros.

The main benefit of using the strap is that you can lift heavy weights without worrying about the slipping of the bar. Hence, you can build bigger muscles and get stronger.

The disadvantage is obviously that your grips and forearm will not develop “naturally.”

In my opinion, there is no need to use it all the time. But if you do, spend time with training your forearms and grip.

    7. Knee Wraps

To tell the truth, I do not use wraps for my knees, and I have never used. So, it hard to say my opinion, but here is an excellent article about the topic.

    8. Water Bottle

Drinking plenty of water while you work out is crucial to avoid dehydration. In gyms, there are drinking fountains, but a bottle is far better as it is always next to you so that you will drink more.

    9. Weightlifting apparel

Well, what you wear during your training does not seems to be a major thing but an uncomfortable and nonfunctional apparel can ruin your workout.

Pick clothes that are specially made for working out. These pieces handle the moisture better and provide a far more comfortable user experience.

I do not recommend to wear clothes that are entirely made from vinyl or other unnatural fabric. Also, do not put on too many clothes because that just trap your sweat and may lead to dehydration.

    10. Training Log if You Want

For some people, it is a sort of motivation to record their workouts and to reach their fitness goals. If you are among them, do not leave your log at home.

Final words on must have lifting accessories

I think these weight lifting gears are enough for someone who wants to lift weight comfortably and safely. There is no need to buy fashionable, over-hyped and expensive things. Working out is not about being the most beautiful and stylish girl or boy in the gym, but about training. You go there to exercise and not for being a part of a fashion show.
